Le Pen and eight lawmakers found guilty, Le Pen banned from politics
Paris, March 31 (Hibya) – Marine Le Pen has been banned from running for public office for five years, meaning she cannot run in the 2027 French presidential election.
She was found guilty of embezzling EU funds to finance the far-right National Rally (RN) party.
The French court imposed an immediate five-year ban on her candidacy for public office, effectively disqualifying her from the 2027 race.
She was also sentenced to four years in prison, two of which are suspended. The remaining two years may be served under electronic surveillance instead of incarceration.
Le Pen was also fined €100,000. She left the courtroom while the judge was reading the verdict. She is expected to appeal, so the sentence is not yet in effect.
