Estonian Foreign Minister Tsahkna emphasized that the agreement reached today at the EU Council to ban Russian natural gas imports entirely by 2028 delivers a clear message: “Aggressors have no place in Europe’s energy market.”

He added that Russia continues to use energy revenues as a weapon to finance its ruthless war machine. “The gradual phase-out of Russian gas is not only about reducing dependency but also a strategic move to strengthen Europe’s security and resilience,” Tsahkna said.

Tsahkna stated that Estonia welcomes this decisive step and looks forward to the European Parliament’s active participation in advancing energy independence.
