Trump Demands Firing of Prosecutors Investigating the Capitol Riot
Washington, February 1 (Hibya) - According to a directive issued on January 31, the U.S. Department of Justice ordered Washington D.C.'s Attorney General, Acting U.S. Attorney Edward Martin, to fire the prosecutors assigned to investigate the January 6 Capitol riot.
Additionally, in a directive reviewed by CBS News and confirmed by sources familiar with the matter, on Friday, the Deputy Attorney General ordered a review of all FBI agents assigned to the January 6 investigation.
In a memo written by Acting Attorney General James McHenry, it was stated that the dismissals would take effect immediately. An appendix listing the names of employees to be dismissed was attached to the memo.
Some employees in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington D.C. were initially hired on a temporary basis to conduct the January 6 investigation. Before the transition, the Biden Justice Department made them permanent employees.
