Trump considers appointing Richard Grenell as special envoy for Ukraine conflict
Washington, November 23 (Hibya) - U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is considering appointing former intelligence chief Richard Grenell as special envoy for the Russia-Ukraine conflict, according to four sources familiar with his transition plans.
Grenell, who served as U.S. ambassador to Germany and deputy director of national intelligence during Trump’s administration (2017–2021), could play a key role in Trump’s efforts to end the war if appointed.
Currently, there is no special envoy dedicated to resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, but according to four sources who requested anonymity, Trump is considering creating this role.
The sources noted that Trump might decide not to create a special envoy role for the Ukraine conflict but is seriously considering it. If the role is created, he could choose another candidate, and there is no guarantee that Grenell would accept the offer.
During his campaign, Trump claimed he would quickly end the conflict but did not specify how he planned to do so.
