Trump addresses the nation: The United States is stronger than ever
Washington, December 18 (Hibya) – U.S. President Donald Trump delivered an address to the nation last night.
Trump began his speech by criticizing the efforts of his predecessor Joe Biden and then listed all the achievements he said were made in the first year after his return to office. “We are experiencing an economic boom the likes of which the world has never seen before,” he said.
Donald Trump spent several minutes outlining the mistakes made during Biden’s presidency, including “open” borders, the participation of transgender individuals in women’s sports, rising crime rates, “the worst trade deals ever signed,” and a “sick and corrupt” federal government.
Trump said that since returning to the White House, “within a few months we went from the worst to the best.”
The main focus of the speech was the country’s economy, with Donald Trump promising an “unprecedented” economic recovery next year.
According to Trump, a large part of the perceived success is tied to a tough tariff policy.
The U.S. president said, “My favorite word, tariffs, were used against us by other countries for decades, but they are no longer used. Companies know that if they produce in the United States, there will be no tariffs, so factories and facilities are being built in the United States at levels we have never seen before.”
However, recent public opinion polls show that voters are dissatisfied with the administration’s handling of the economy. According to NBC News, inflation has risen recently, and Trump’s tariffs have instead increased costs for ordinary Americans.
Immigration and defense, two of the U.S. president’s top priorities, were also among the topics addressed in the speech.
During the speech, Trump stated that each of the country’s 1.45 million military personnel would receive a payment of $1,776 to honor their efforts.
Trump also once again emphasized the shortcomings of border control under Joe Biden, claiming that 25 million undocumented immigrants entered the United States during his presidency.
“In the last seven months, zero illegal immigrants have entered our country; an achievement that everyone said was completely impossible. We inherited the worst border in the world and quickly turned it into the strongest border in our country’s history,” he said.
Prior to the speech, there had been speculation that Trump might make a statement about Venezuela, but no such statement was made.
The speech lasted 18 minutes.
