Szijjarto: We stand with our farmers and reject the Mercosur agreement
Budapest, November 4 (Hibya) – Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto held a phone call with French Deputy Minister for European Affairs Benjamin Haddad.
Foreign Minister Szijjarto said he had a discussion with Haddad regarding the EU–Mercosur agreement.
He argued that Brussels is exerting heavy pressure for the deal’s approval, despite the fact that its current form poses a serious threat to Hungarian agriculture and could destroy the livelihoods of many Hungarian farmers. “Unfortunately, Brussels has proven many times that its bureaucrats are not at all concerned with the situation of European farmers,” Szijjarto said.
Emphasizing that Hungary is not willing to sacrifice its agriculture, Szijjarto added: “We stand with our farmers and firmly reject the agreement in its current form.”
