Russia warns Trump against attacking Iran
Moscow, April 4 (Hibya) – Russia has warned the United States not to attack Iran in an attempt to halt its nuclear program, saying that the use of military force for this purpose would be “illegal and unacceptable.”
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, “It is illegal and unacceptable for Iran’s opponents to use force to resolve political disputes.” She added, “External threats to bomb Iran’s nuclear infrastructure will inevitably lead to extremely serious and irreversible consequences.”
Zakharova stressed that Russia believes Iran has the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
Russia has repeatedly criticized U.S. threats against Iran in recent months. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov earlier this week condemned what he called the U.S. administration’s “inappropriate” actions towards Iran.
U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to bomb Iran if the Iranian government does not accept new agreements regarding its nuclear program.
The United States has long tried to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. In 2015, under Barack Obama’s administration, the U.S. signed a deal to limit Iran’s nuclear program, but that agreement was scrapped after Trump was elected last year.
