The court announced on Thursday that it had unanimously ordered Romania's central election bureau to review and recount "all valid and invalid ballots" cast in Sunday's election, in which pro-Russian ultra-nationalist Călin Georgescu emerged victorious.

The presidential office reported "cyberattacks aimed at undermining the integrity of the electoral process" during Sunday's vote and highlighted "Russia's increasing interest in influencing the public agenda within Romanian society."

The news outlet Digi24 reported that the Constitutional Court's recount order pertains to allegations of vote manipulation in favor of centrist candidate Elena Lasconi, who placed second and is expected to face Georgescu in the second round on December 8.

This complaint sought to annul the results of the first round. The court will decide on this request during its meeting on Friday. Another election fraud allegation against Georgescu was dismissed due to late submission.
