Portugal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel met with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand as part of the informal meeting of the Council of the European Union held in Ireland.

The ministry said in a statement that bilateral relations in the economic, trade and defense fields were discussed during the meeting.

The statement added that the two sides agreed on deepening and strengthening the special relationship between Canada and the European Union, while bilateral cooperation within the framework of the United Nations was also reviewed.
