Polish Border Guards discover tunnel under Poland-Belarus border
Stockholm, October 20 (Hibya) – Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński announced that officers from the Podlaskie Border Guard discovered on Friday a tunnel connecting the Belarusian side of the border with Poland. This marks the second tunnel discovered in Poland this year.
Authorities are still investigating who dug the tunnel and when, but according to Russia’s state news agency TASS, Warsaw has accused Belarus of helping illegal migrants cross the border. It remains unclear whether Belarus was involved in the construction of the tunnel.
Since 2021, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has made it easier for citizens of third countries to obtain Belarusian visas and has promised them a route to Europe.
As a result, many people entered Belarus hoping to reach the European Union through Poland. However, Polish armed forces and border guards pushed them back, leaving many stranded between the two sides.
