The meeting discussed accelerating the country's transition to electric vehicles (EVs), strengthening local production, and supporting the growth of the sector.
Comprehensive policy measures aimed at increasing employment, boosting exports, and contributing to the fight against climate change were also evaluated.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of developing a competitive, innovative, and sustainable automotive ecosystem that supports economic growth, enhances industrial capacity, creates skilled jobs, and advances environmental sustainability through a future-ready automotive sector.
To ensure a comprehensive and consultative approach, a subcommittee was established to conduct consultations with all stakeholders, review the policy, and finalize the draft policy.
The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Energy, Petroleum, and Climate Change; the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Industries and Production; Ministers of State for Finance and Railways; SAPM Tariq Bajwa; the Secretaries of Commerce, Industries and Production, and Petroleum; the UMC Coordinator; senior officials from relevant ministries; and leading policy experts and economists.
