Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dar met with French Foreign Minister Barrot on the margins of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. According to a statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting covered Pakistan-France bilateral relations as well as regional and global developments.

Dar reiterated Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen bilateral ties through increased political engagement, trade and investment, educational links and people-to-people relations.

Dar expressed appreciation for France’s efforts in support of a two-state solution, including its decision to restrict imports of products from Israeli settlements. The two ministers stressed that the Palestinian issue should remain a priority on the international agenda and highlighted the importance of continuing international efforts toward a just, lasting and comprehensive solution.

Regarding developments related to Iran, the parties discussed the importance of continuing diplomatic engagement and regional efforts to address the crisis. They also emphasized the importance of implementing the Islamabad Understanding.

The two ministers said that, taking into account the broader economic implications, the safety and free flow of maritime traffic should be ensured and energy supplies should continue without interruption.

French Foreign Minister Barrot expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts toward regional peace and stability. The parties agreed on the importance of using regional platforms to address regional issues and advance dialogue.

The two sides agreed to maintain close contact on bilateral and regional issues in areas of mutual interest.
