Orban says the EU’s refusal to use Russian energy resources is unfounded
Stockholm, December 18 (Hibya) – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the EU’s rejection of Russian energy resources is an unfounded and disastrous decision.
Speaking to journalists in Brussels, Orban said, “I believe that the EU’s abandonment of Russian energy is a failure. The idea that EU member states and the entire continent should have access to other energy sources in addition to Russian energy in order to diversify supply and thus increase stability was correct. But depriving oneself of a vital source of supply is foolish.”
According to Orban, this runs counter to Hungary’s interests, and therefore Budapest “will always fight against it, as long as it is done properly.”
Orban said, “What the EU is currently doing to Russia is reckless; we are depriving ourselves of one of the richest and cheapest energy sources. This is completely unfounded, meaningless, and economically irrational.”
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban had previously stated that Russia guarantees Hungary’s security by supplying energy, and that ordinary people would not replace a reliable supplier with an unreliable one.
