As part of its efforts to track the supply of AI talent across countries, LinkedIn released its "AI talent concentration" metric, based on user profile data collected from the professional networking platform.

LinkedIn defines AI talent as including engineering skills like machine learning and natural language processing, as well as AI literacy skills involving tools such as ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot.

According to CNBC, with the rise of AI, companies around the world are competing for strong AI talent and working to improve the technological capabilities of their workforce.

Microsoft and LinkedIn’s 2024 report found that this has become a top concern for organizational leaders, with 66% saying they would not hire someone without AI skills, and 71% preferring a less experienced candidate with AI capabilities over a more experienced one lacking those skills.

According to LinkedIn’s 2024 data, these 10 countries have the highest AI talent concentration compared to the global average: Israel – 1.98%, Singapore – 1.64%, Luxembourg – 1.44%, Estonia – 1.17%, Switzerland – 1.16%, Finland – 1.13%, Ireland – 1.11%, Germany – 1.09%, Netherlands – 1.07%, South Korea – 1.06%.

Notably, the top six countries maintained their rankings from the previous year. Meanwhile, Ireland climbed four spots to seventh place, and South Korea dropped three spots to tenth.

Chua Pei Ying, LinkedIn’s Chief Economist for the APAC region, stated: “Many of the countries with the highest AI talent concentration — such as Israel, Singapore, Luxembourg, and Estonia — are relatively small in population and geographic size but are outperforming in developing AI capabilities.”

Chua told CNBC: “This is possible when companies invest in developing their employees' skills and governments create policies that encourage continuous learning, building a thriving ecosystem that nurtures talent.”
