European Commission President Leyen stated that Europe stands in full solidarity with brave Iranian women and men who risk their lives to demand freedom for themselves and future generations.

Noting that the EU already imposes comprehensive sanctions on Iran due to human rights violations, nuclear proliferation, and its support for Russia’s war against Ukraine, Leyen said:

“Today, we propose banning additional exports of critical drone and missile technologies. Together with High Representative Kaja Kallas, we are also preparing new sanctions in response to the regime’s ongoing and brutal repression of protesters.”
