Brussels, May 19 (Hibya) - President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated that she had an excellent conversation with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, emphasizing that Türkiye is a key partner in a turbulent region.

Referring to shared interests, von der Leyen said, “Türkiye is a key partner in a turbulent region. Our interests overlap; keeping trade routes open, ensuring energy flows, and maintaining stable supply chains. We will continue our close cooperation on these priorities.”
Praising Türkiye’s regional role, von der Leyen stated, “The EU appreciates Türkiye’s efforts toward a diplomatic solution and de-escalation in the Iran conflict.”
Von der Leyen also noted that regional issues were discussed: “We also discussed the Eastern Mediterranean and the Cyprus issue. We underlined the importance of EU-Türkiye relations.”
The President of the European Commission concluded her statement by saying, “The EU is ready to support the UN-led process at every stage.”
