Lazzarini stated that aid distribution in Gaza has become a death trap: “This morning there were numerous mass casualties, including civilians who died of hunger or were injured, due to gunfire.”

He noted that under an Israeli-American plan, a distribution point was placed at the southernmost part of Rafah: “This humiliating system forced thousands of hungry and desperate people to walk dozens of miles to a region almost completely destroyed by heavy Israeli bombardment.”

Lazzarini stressed that aid deliveries and distribution must be large-scale and safe.

He said that in Gaza, this can only be done through the United Nations, including UNRWA, and added:

“The State of Israel must lift the siege and provide safe and unimpeded access to the UN to bring in and safely distribute aid. As competing narratives and disinformation campaigns continue in full force, international media must be allowed to enter Gaza and independently report on the ongoing atrocities, including this morning’s horrific crime.”
