Lavrov: I can say that the US is showing strong will to normalize our relations
Riyadh, February 18 (Hibya) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the United States (US) is demonstrating strong will to normalize relations with Russia.
Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov made a statement following the US-Russia Summit held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
Key points from Lavrov's speech:
“We agreed to take action as soon as possible to remove these artificial barriers in our relations.
Another issue we agreed on is the establishment of a process and mechanism regarding Ukraine. The Americans will announce who will represent Washington, and once we learn the name of the American representative, as agreed between Putin and Trump, we will also announce our representative.
As the peace and agreement process continues and progresses, we have agreed to normalize our cooperation and expand it to cover many different areas.
I can say that both the United States and Russia have a great interest in this matter. Both parties are willing to remove the artificial barriers to economic cooperation. During today's meeting, we presented some proposals that could be beneficial for the American side and may serve the interests of both Russia and the United States in the coming days.
It is not necessary for our positions to align completely. However, we have agreed on the necessity of restoring the full functionality of our diplomatic missions. Our priority is to find practical solutions and normalize our diplomatic channels.
Regarding Ukraine, the Americans will appoint their representatives, and we will do the same. Consultations and discussions will then begin.
Zelensky and his entire team need to come to their senses. Their actions show this. America had already mentioned a moratorium on attacks on energy facilities. We have always said that we do not endanger civilian energy infrastructure, but only target the military facilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Following this meeting, I can say that the United States is demonstrating strong will to normalize relations with Russia. Despite all efforts to harm this process, we must continue working on it.”
