Michael Prescott, a former editorial adviser who raised concerns about BBC News — including the editing of a Donald Trump speech on Panorama — will speak publicly about the matter for the first time before a House of Commons committee.

An internal memo written by Prescott was leaked to the press, leading to the resignation of the BBC’s Director-General and Head of News earlier this month.

BBC Chair Samir Shah — under pressure over his handling of the situation — will testify alongside board members Sir Robbie Gibb and Caroline Thomson.

Another former editorial adviser, Caroline Daniel, will also address Parliament’s Culture, Media and Sport Committee.

The pair will face tough questioning from MPs, share their views on the state of the BBC and its journalism, and reveal what happened behind the scenes.

On Friday, board member Shumeet Banerji resigned, citing “governance issues” within the organisation’s senior leadership — something BBC media editor Katie Razzall said “appeared to be a direct criticism of Shah.”

Razzall added that Banerji’s departure makes Monday’s committee hearing “even more critical” for Shah.
