NATO military exercises begin in the Baltic Sea
Stockholm, 24 November (Hibya) – NATO exercises led by the Finnish Navy have begun in the Baltic Sea.
The military exercise Freezing Winds 25 is being held from 24 November to 4 December along Finland’s southern coast, in the Archipelago Sea and the Gulf of Finland.
The exercise focuses on securing maritime connections and critical infrastructure, combat operations on islands and the coastline, defense against amphibious assaults, and joint operations between naval and coastal forces.
A total of 20 warships and supply and support vessels from various allied nations will participate.
In addition to Finland, forces and vessels from Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, and the United States, as well as NATO’s Standing Mine Countermeasures Group SNMCMG1, are taking part.
In total, around 5,000 military personnel and approximately 20 allied ships will join the exercise. Fighter jets, helicopters, and maritime patrol aircraft will also participate.
