In a statement, the Council of the European Union announced that Ireland has officially assumed the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The statement also noted that each European Union member state holds the Presidency approximately once every 13.5 years, adding that this system helps ensure the continuous and orderly functioning of the Union's work.
