New York, 8 December (Hibya) – United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres made a statement regarding the unconstitutional attempt to seize power in Benin.
Secretary-General Guterres said regarding the developments in Benin: “I am deeply concerned about the unconstitutional attempt to seize power in Benin.”
Emphasizing that targeting democratic order poses risks for the region, Guterres added: “I condemn any attempt to undermine democratic governance in Benin; this situation could further threaten regional stability.”
Highlighting the importance of the rule of law, Guterres stated: “I call for full respect for the rule of law and the Constitution.”
