EP Trade Committee Chair Lange responds to Trump’s tariff decision
Strasbourg, April 3 (Hibya) – European Parliament's International Trade Committee Chair Bernd Lange reacted to U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 20% tariff.
Lange said that while Trump calls today “Liberation Day”, for an ordinary citizen, it is “Inflation Day”.
He warned that unfair, illegal, and disproportionate measures could only lead to further tariff hikes and a downward economic spiral in the U.S. and globally:
“Due to this decision, American consumers will bear the brunt of a trade war. These tariffs will only make processes and production less efficient. They’ve created damaging uncertainty in the investment climate. The markets couldn't have been clearer in their response. The EU will respond. We will do so with legal, legitimate, proportional, and determined measures. We will assess which tools are most suitable for our response. We are not backing down.”
