According to CCTV, the death toll from the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda has exceeded 1,000.

According to the latest figures released by the two countries, the total number of fatalities has risen to 1,001.

According to the latest report from the DRC Ministry of Health, 2,473 confirmed Ebola cases had been recorded nationwide as of Monday, with 999 deaths.

Uganda reported 20 confirmed cases, including two deaths, bringing the total death toll across the two countries to 1,001.

The outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, was first declared on May 15 in Ituri Province in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo before spreading to North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut-Uele, and Tshopo provinces.

On May 17, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda a "Public Health Emergency of International Concern."

According to the DRC Ministry of Health, as of Monday, 737 patients remained in isolation or were receiving hospital treatment, while 482 had recovered and been discharged.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a press conference in Geneva on July 16 that the current outbreak had become the third-largest Ebola outbreak on record and was spreading faster than previous major outbreaks.

The current outbreak is the 17th Ebola outbreak recorded in the Democratic Republic of the Congo since the virus was first identified in 1976.

Tedros also stated that Uganda's last confirmed Ebola patient was discharged on July 16 and that the country had begun the required 42-day monitoring period before an official declaration of the end of the outbreak.

Under WHO rules, an Ebola outbreak is officially declared over if no new cases are detected within 42 days from the date the last confirmed patient is no longer capable of transmitting the virus.

If no new infections are detected during this period, the outbreak is considered to have ended.
