Bulgarian media: Bulgaria preparing to seize Russian refinery
Sofia, November 6 (Hibya) – According to reports in the Bulgarian media, Bulgaria is preparing to take control of Russian oil company Lukoil’s Burgas refinery and sell it to a new owner.
Burgas is Bulgaria’s only oil refinery, and as part of Lukoil, it faces the risk of closure due to sanctions.
Last month, the United States joined the United Kingdom in imposing sanctions on Russia’s two largest oil companies, Lukoil and Rosneft, in response to Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine.
The Bulgarian news outlet Mediapool reported on Wednesday that a draft law allowing the state to seize the refinery is being prepared. Last week, Lukoil announced that it had decided to sell its foreign assets due to the sanctions.
