Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said that thousands of Ukrainian families are suffering deeply due to the absence of their loved ones.

Referring to the situation of those being held, Anand said, “Thousands of Ukrainian families continue to live with the pain caused by the absence of children taken from them, civilians unlawfully detained, and prisoners of war held by Russia. Behind every number is a loved one whose family is waiting for them to come home.”

Sharing the goals of the summit to be held in Toronto, Anand said, “Canada, Ukraine and Norway will bring governments and international organizations together in Toronto later this month to build coordinated pressure on Russia.”

Outlining the main agenda items of the conference, Anand said, “The conference will focus on tracing those who are still missing, improving access to information, and strengthening the systems needed to secure their return.”
