Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic announced the opening of the Wellovar Geothermal Sports and Recreation Park in Bjelovar. Plenkovic said the project’s total investment value was €55 million, around €17 million of which was financed under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Commenting on the project, Plenkovic said, “This project creates a new high-value-added tourism product that will operate year-round and offers development opportunities for tourism, sports and the economy throughout Bjelovar-Bilogora County.”

Plenkovic said it was also an important achievement that the project would host the 2027 European Junior Swimming Championships, and emphasized its green component. Plenkovic said, “The green component is also emphasized because the project is based on the use of geothermal and solar energy.”

Plenkovic also thanked everyone who contributed to the implementation of the project, saying, “This project shows that all the conditions exist for the development of sustainable and strong tourism in continental Croatia as well.”
