Zelensky: Russia rejected our proposal for an energy ceasefire
Oslo, October 20 (Hibya) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he had discussed an energy ceasefire and the peace process during meetings with US and European partners, explaining that Ukraine had proposed a reciprocal halt to attacks in exchange for Russia ending its strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that important discussions had taken place in Oslo with US and European partners. He noted that US representative Steve Witkoff attended the meetings, while Jared Kushner participated online.
Zelensky stated that Ukraine immediately supported the US proposal for an energy ceasefire, but Russia continued its attacks. He explained that Ukraine had offered various options for refraining from targeting sensitive sites in Russia's energy sector if Russia stopped attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Zelensky said Russian President Vladimir Putin had rejected the proposal.
Stating that Ukraine had concrete ideas for achieving peace, Zelensky said they were working in coordination with their European partners and wanted the United States to convey these proposals to Russia.
Zelensky also noted that a possible trilateral meeting of leaders was under consideration to address issues requiring direct discussions at the leadership level. He added that Steve Witkoff would travel to Russia the following day and that they were awaiting Putin's response.
