Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said countries depend on ships carrying fuel, food and resources, adding that they would not accept countries being charged fees to exercise rights guaranteed under international law.

Wong announced that Australia had joined the European Union-led “No Fees/No Tolls” pledge.

Wong said, “Our people depend on ships carrying fuel, food and resources. We cannot accept a world in which countries have to pay to exercise rights guaranteed under international law. That is why Australia has joined the European Union-led ‘No Fees/No Tolls’ pledge.”
