Ghebreyesus stated that on this day, he celebrates the many lives saved thanks to investments in maternal and child health: "Women now have higher survival rates before and during childbirth. But to deliver Hopeful Futures, all women need quality maternal care, regardless of who they are or where they live. WHO calls on all countries to increase their commitments and investments to support, provide, and protect the health of mothers and babies."
