In its statement on the 39th anniversary of the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster, the UN recalled the profound impacts the event had on humanity and the environment, emphasizing the importance of the safety and security of nuclear power plants.

The Chernobyl disaster, which occurred in 1986, is considered one of the most devastating nuclear accidents in history. The UN stressed that commemorating this event each year on April 26 is not only a tribute to the past but also a lesson for preventing similar tragedies in the future.

The statement said: "Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day highlights the tragedy that the nuclear disaster brought to humanity and the environment. Even after 39 years, the events continue to remind us of the crucial importance of ensuring the safety and security of nuclear power plants."
