UN Commissioner Türk: Journalists are human rights defenders
New York, November 2 (Hibya) – United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk issued a message on the occasion of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, observed on November 2.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Türk, stated that journalists who expose injustices and give voice to the voiceless are defenders of human rights.
However, he noted that journalists are under attack by governments, corporations, and criminal organizations. “On the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, we honor them and call for accountability,” Türk said.
