Ukraine Accepts 30-Day Temporary Ceasefire
Stockholm, March 11 (Hibya) - Following the U.S.-Ukraine talks in Jeddah, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that they had accepted a full ceasefire for 30 days.
According to The Guardian, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a statement following the meeting between senior U.S. and Ukrainian officials in Jeddah.
Zelensky stated that the Ukrainian delegation had proposed real measures to build trust, including silence in the air and sea, as well as the release of detainees. He emphasized that the U.S. had proposed a full ceasefire in the Black Sea and along the entire front line for 30 days, which Ukraine accepted.
"We see this as a positive step, and we are ready to take it," Zelensky said.
He stressed that the U.S. must persuade Russia to accept the proposal, highlighting that a key element of today’s meeting was America’s readiness to continue providing defense assistance to Ukraine.
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed hope that Russia would accept the ceasefire plan prepared by U.S. and Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia.
Trump also announced that he would re-invite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the White House, saying, "Tomorrow, we have a major meeting with Russia, and we expect some great discussions."
He also stated that he would speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin this week regarding the ceasefire proposal.
