UK and Norway form naval alliance to protect undersea cables
Stockholm, December 5 (Hibya) – The United Kingdom and Norway have formed a naval alliance to protect undersea cables and hunt Russian submarines.
The UK announced on Thursday new joint naval patrols with Norway aimed at protecting undersea cables from Russia, as Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his Norwegian counterpart Jonas Gahr Støre held defence talks.
The British government said that a combined fleet of at least 13 warships would “hunt Russian submarines and protect critical infrastructure in the North Atlantic.”
Norwegian Defence Minister Tore O. Sandvik, who signed the agreement with his British counterpart John Healey, said the deal would allow both countries “to defend themselves together.”
The agreement follows an €11 billion deal reached in August for Norway to purchase at least five UK-built frigates.
