Three killed in severe rainstorms in California as of Christmas night
Los Angeles, December 26 (Hibya) – According to local authorities, severe rainstorms that affected large parts of California caused flooding and landslides, resulting in the deaths of three people as of Christmas night.
The storms, expected to continue until Friday, brought up to 27 centimeters of rain to some parts of Los Angeles County, triggering evacuations and closing major roads.
Emergency crews were forced to carry out numerous rescue operations, including rescuing people trapped in their vehicles as floodwaters rose. California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency on Wednesday in Los Angeles and other Southern California cities.
As of Thursday evening, approximately 100,000 people in the state were without power.
The U.S. Weather Prediction Center said on Thursday: “Numerous flash flood events are possible. In addition, many streams may overflow, which could affect larger rivers.”
