Iraq completely halts natural gas supplies from Iran
Baghdad, December 25 (Hibya) – Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity announced that natural gas shipments from Iran have come to a complete halt.
According to reports in Iranian and Iraqi media, Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity said that natural gas supplies from Iran have stopped entirely. Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Mousa stated that the outage has taken 4,000 to 4,500 megawatts of generation offline from the national grid, leading to the shutdown of some power plants and reduced output at others.
Mousa noted that Tehran cited “emergency situations” for the interruption, adding that electricity generation has shifted to domestic alternative fuels and the situation is under control. Gas exports from Iran to Iraq have reportedly declined significantly this year following the tightening of U.S. sanctions.
