Tajani meets with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi
Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani discussed the Strait of Hormuz, developments in the Middle East, and the situation in Lebanon during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Tajani said Araghchi briefed him on the negotiations Iran is conducting with Oman to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping.
"It is of great importance that dialogue between Iran and the United States continues swiftly in order to reach a political solution to the crisis," Tajani said. He added, "For regional stability and the global economy, full freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz must be guaranteed without any fees or restrictions."
Tajani also said that developments in Lebanon were discussed during the meeting. "I hope the negotiations currently underway in Rome will produce concrete results that strengthen the ceasefire and pave the way for a comprehensive agreement," he said.
Reiterating that Iran has a critical role in halting Hezbollah's military activities, Tajani added, "Italy will continue to do its part to support dialogue, security, and peace in the Middle East."
