Syria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned an attempt by Houthi militias to target Mecca with unmanned aerial vehicles.

In a statement, the ministry said that violating Mecca's security, targeting its surroundings or endangering the safety of pilgrims, citizens and residents in the area constitutes a serious violation of the sanctity of holy sites and a provocation against the sentiments of all Muslims.

The statement said Syria stands in full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and stands by it in the face of threats from Houthi militias.

The statement said Syria supports the decisions Saudi Arabia will take to protect the security of the two holy sites, stressing the need to respect the sanctity of holy places and protect them from the effects of regional conflicts.
