Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, referring to his speech at a conference held in Toronto, Canada, on the return of Ukrainian children, detained civilians and prisoners of war, criticized Russia’s treatment of Ukrainians.

Sybiha said that a Ukrainian prisoner of war who had spent five months in Russian captivity lost 77 kilograms, stating, “This shows how brutal Russia’s unlawful detention of Ukrainians is.”

Sybiha said that 11 torture chambers had been established in Kherson and the surrounding area in less than nine months, adding that this demonstrated the systematic nature of the crimes he said were committed by Russia.

Sybiha said they were working on a draft resolution at the United Nations General Assembly to address the torture suffered by Ukrainians in Russian captivity, stating, “We need more pressure. From all our allies, in every area, and now.”

Citing Canada’s sanctions against people involved in the deportation and forced displacement of Ukrainian children as an example, Sybiha said, “The return of our people is a key milestone on any path to real peace. Skipping it is not an option.”
