Rubio: Ukraine talks "highly productive". More work is needed
Washington, December 1 (Hibya) – U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that talks with Ukraine to end the Russia–Ukraine war have been productive, but that “much more work needs to be done.”
A Ukrainian delegation led by the country’s new chief negotiator, National Security Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, attended the meetings held in Florida.
Also present at the meeting were President Donald Trump’s representative Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Umerov was appointed to replace former chief negotiator Andriy Yermak, who resigned after an anti-corruption raid on the Ukrainian president’s residence.
Speaking at the meeting in Hallandale Beach, north of Miami, Rubio said: “It is not only conditions that end wars. What also matters is establishing conditions that will bring Ukraine long-term prosperity… I believe we built on that today, but there is still much work ahead.”
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump said that the talks were “going well” and that the likelihood of reaching an agreement to end the conflict was high.
