Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a telephone conversation at the initiative of the Armenian side.

According to a statement issued by the Russian side, the July 27 conversation addressed Armenia’s accession process to the European Union and its relations with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Putin was reported to have reaffirmed his commitment to the obligations contained in the joint declaration adopted by the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia at the Eurasian Economic Union Summit held in Astana on May 29.

The statement said Armenia should hold a national referendum to decide whether to join the EU or remain in the EAEU.

The two leaders also exchanged views on bilateral relations and regional developments.
