Prevot: A common European approach is needed against arbitrary detentions in Iran
Brussels, April 22 (Hibya) – Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxime Prevot announced that he met with Vida Mehrannia, the wife of Dr. Ahmadreza Djalali, who has been detained in Iran since 2016.

Prevot stated that the meeting had a profound impact on him, noting that the uncertainty lasting for many years has placed a heavy burden on Mehrannia and her children.
Prevot noted that Belgium, together with Sweden, continues to keep Djalali’s situation on the agenda, adding that the issue has been raised many times and will continue to be raised. He emphasized that no one should be used as a bargaining tool by any regime.
Prevot also stated that Belgium opposes arbitrary detentions and the death penalty wherever they occur, calling for a coordinated European approach against these practices in Iran.
