Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic made a statement regarding the disposal of non-hazardous waste in Gospic. Plenkovic said two Croatian cement plants that had previously carried out such operations as part of their commercial activities had been assigned to the task.

Plenkovic said the disposal of the waste would have no negative impact on the environment or human health, arguing that the opposition was creating public concern.

Plenkovic said the opposition's “constant spreading of disinformation and unsettling of the public” had created an atmosphere conducive to calls for a state of emergency to be declared in Lika due to an environmental disaster, adding that this had increased concern among citizens. Plenkovic said, “This is irresponsible and we will fight against it.”

Plenkovic said the government would solve the waste problem, adding, “Unlike the opposition, the government will solve the waste problem and will not create an atmosphere of panic.”
