Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic discussed the clean, fair and competitive transition process with European Commission Vice-President Teresa Ribera.

The meeting addressed strengthening industry, increasing energy independence and preserving the competitiveness of the European economy.

Following the meeting, Plenkovic said the Croatian government had adopted its 11th package of measures to mitigate the impact of global price pressures caused by the conflict in the Middle East on citizens’ living standards and the competitiveness of the economy.

Plenkovic said that for Croatia, the decarbonization process should not merely create costs due to the adaptation of existing industrial capacity, and stressed the importance of turning the process into an opportunity to create new investments, technologies and production capacities.

Plenkovic said that in the energy sector, in line with REPowerEU targets, dependence on Russian energy resources is being reduced and infrastructure is being built that will strengthen Croatia’s position as a regional energy hub.

Plenkovic said an encouraging regulatory and investment environment is needed to implement the planned industrial investments.
