Organizer of Quran-burning protests in Sweden shot dead
Stockholm, January 30 (Hibya) - According to Sweden's SVT television channel, citing security sources, the organizer of Quran-burning events, Salwan Momika, was shot dead in Sweden.
The report stated: "Salwan Momika, who burned the Quran, was shot dead late Wednesday evening in Södertälje."
A Stockholm court was expected to convict Momika on Thursday for inciting hatred based on nationality.
Police spokesman Daniel Wikdal said that following a shooting in Södertälje on Wednesday evening, police and ambulances were dispatched to the scene. A man was found shot inside an apartment. Sources confirmed that the victim was 38-year-old Momika.
Police arrested five people as part of the preliminary murder investigation.
According to Expressen newspaper, Momika was live streaming on TikTok shortly before he was shot. Some events may have been broadcast live.
Momika, an Iraqi immigrant, had organized several Quran-burning events in Sweden, including one at Stockholm’s main mosque on the first day of Eid al-Adha.
