Moderate earthquake hits town in southern Italy
Rome, August 3 (Hibya)—Late last night, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck the Calabria region in southern Italy.
No reports of damage or injuries have been released yet.
The Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reported that the earthquake occurred in the Ionian Sea, about three kilometers west of the village of Pietrapaola.
INGV General Director Carlo Doglioni told RaiNews 24 that there have been several tremors in the area in recent days and the institute is monitoring the situation.
Carlo Doglioni said, "We don't know if this is the largest earthquake in the process."
