German Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized Europe’s unity and determination in his remarks on the efforts to secure peace in Ukraine. He stated that a ceasefire, a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, and the security of Europe must be ensured as soon as possible.

Merz said, “We continue to support Ukraine. We seek an immediate ceasefire, a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, and security for Europe.”

He also stressed that any plan concerning Europe’s interests and sovereignty requires Europe’s approval, adding: “Every plan that affects Europe’s interests and sovereignty requires Europe’s approval. Europe is united and determined.”
