Meloni said that this morning, ahead of the meeting on European competitiveness, she met with German Chancellor Merz and Belgian Prime Minister De Wever to exchange views. She noted that the discussion focused in particular on the consequences of the conflict in the Middle East for the global energy market and on possible initiatives that could be taken quickly to reduce pressure on energy prices. Meloni also stated:
"Subsequently, together with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, I co-chaired a new meeting of several Member States most interested in innovative solutions to manage migration and in strengthening the legal framework, particularly for returns. In addition to Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands and the European Commission, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Poland, Latvia, Malta, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Sweden and Hungary also participated in the meeting."
