French President Emmanuel Macron, in a message published on the occasion of European Heritage Days, commented on the importance of protecting France's cultural and natural heritage.

Macron said, "Our monuments, landscapes, forests, know-how and traditions; our heritage tells our history and brings our regions to life."

Stating that they have made heritage protection a priority since 2017, Macron highlighted efforts focused on "restoration, preservation and revitalization." He said that work to safeguard the country's shared heritage is being carried out nationwide through the Heritage Mission and the Heritage Lottery.

Macron said the reconstruction of Notre-Dame de Paris demonstrated what can be achieved when people act together, adding that this solidarity must be maintained.

Emphasizing that heritage is not limited to historic buildings, Macron said, "Our forests and landscapes are also a living part of this national memory."

Macron noted that forests and natural areas need to be better prepared for the future in the face of climate change and wildfires during the summer months, adding that they are working together with stakeholders on the ground in this regard.

Macron also announced that a "Heritage Card" will be launched to make heritage accessible to everyone, and that the card will provide access to more than 500 sites across France.

In his message, Macron thanked local officials, associations, donors, craftspeople and volunteers for their contributions to preserving heritage, saying, "Our heritage is our memory, our pride and our future. Protecting it, sharing it and passing it on to future generations is the responsibility of us all."
