Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva made a statement on the government's public security measures.

The statement said that 138 state prisons are planned to be equipped to high-security standards in order to isolate the leaders of criminal organizations. It also said the Federal Police would be strengthened through investments in personnel and intelligence and would work together with state police forces and municipal authorities.

As part of efforts to combat femicide, more protective measures will be introduced and operations will be carried out to apprehend people who commit violence against women. Efforts to combat stolen mobile phones will also be expanded, and the scope of the Celular Seguro program will be increased.

The statement said that following congressional approval of the proposed constitutional amendment in the security field, a ministry focused on public security is expected to be established. The aim is to provide the federal government with more mechanisms to work together with states and municipalities in the fight against organized crime.

The goals also include reclaiming areas controlled by organized crime groups for residents, stepping up operations against group leaders, tracking criminal proceeds and preventing the financing of organized crime.
